**Make MONEY. Make FRIENDS. Make A DIFFERENCE! $10-15/HR**PT/FT** (Downtown Crossing)

We’ve got work to do.

America faces some big challenges. Every day, environmental, social justice and consumer problems become more urgent: Even though an overwhelming majority of Americans support protecting our environment, our national parks continue to be threatened by development and budget cuts. Most Americans want consumer protections, but instead we are giving billions of dollars in subsidies to Big Agriculture to promote fatty and dangerous foods. And the majority of Americans want measures that ensure social justice for everyone; but in most states, it is still legal to fire someone just for being gay. Obviously, many of our decision-makers are listening to the deep-pocketed industry lobbyists and have lost touch with the average American.

America’s leading advocacy groups are gearing up to meet these challenges. They know to break the gridlock and make real progress, they'll need a surge of citizen support and grassroots action. That’s where we come in.

At the Fund for the Public Interest, we’ve been organizing campaigns to protect the environment, stand up for the public interest, and defend human rights for more than 25 years. We've helped protect our pristine wilderness areas with Environment America. And working with the Human Rights Campaign, we helped organize the grassroots opposition needed to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Work with us and gain valuable skills mobilizing and building citizen support, activating the media around critical issues and running petition drives for important campaigns. Work on important issues, build your resume and earn money while you’re at it. Hourly wage: $9-$15 average per hour.

Take the Clean Air Advocate's Pledge

-

Yes! I pledge to be a Clean Air Advocate and help ensure that our cornerstone environmental law -- the Clean Air Act -- is used urgently and ambitiously to curb global warming and won't be diluted by hostile politicians or weak compromises this year.

Just as the Obama administration is beginning to use the tried and true Clean Air Act to address global warming, some in Congress have resolved to make 2012 the year they gut this law.

As a Clean Air Advocate, I will push the feds to use this crucial law to solve our most pressing environmental crisis. I'll help by taking action online, spreading the word and urging my city council to pass a resolution in support of using the Clean Air Act to curb global warming pollution. Our warming planet can't afford half-measures or more delayed action, so I'm pledging now to do my part to combat the worldwide crisis of our warming planet.

Challenge Mitt Romney to Feed His Family on a SNAP Budget

-

Mitt Romney couldn't have been more cavalier in dismissing the problems of the very poor than he was in his recent interview on CNN. Romney said he was "not concerned about the very poor" because they have a "safety net." Romney has identified his voting constituency as the middle class and, by golly, that's the only group of Americans he's going to bat for.

Clearly, Romney has never battled the paperwork involved in getting benefits, never had his food stamp card declined at the check out counter. He's not had to worry about whether he can feed his children or if there will be space for them in the shelter tonight. If Romney had ever been poor, he would know how often welfare benefits do not reach the people who need them and he would understand the very short reach of those benefits.

Tell Mitt to feed his family of seven on $995 (a typical Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefit) for one month and see how well the safety net is working.

Tell California Gov. Brown Not to Kill Thousands of Innocent Shelter Animals

-

The Hayden Law protects the hundreds of thousands of dogs, cats and other animals that enter California animal shelters every year by requiring that they be kept alive and available for reclamation or adoption for at least 4-6 days before being killed, and by extending the hours of operation of shelters to allow working families interested in adopting to visit during evenings and weekends.

Governor Jerry Brown  is planning to repeal key provisions of the Hayden Law in order to save the state money.  This is wrong.  Thousands of innocent animals should not be killed to alleviate California's budget woes. There are better and more humane solutions to our state's fiscal problems.
