PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman, who's also the mother of a child in the California public school system, has written to the administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service asking that the service pull all beef and cow's milk from school lunches after mad cow disease was discovered in an animal at a California rendering plant.

A group of parents who are "DAM MAD" (Dads Against Meat and Mothers Against Dairy) also converged on the Sacramento headquarters of the California Department of Food and Agriculture to urge it to protect children by pulling meat and dairy products from school lunches.

A recent article on CNN's website helps explain why many animal advocates—PETA included—support policies requiring in-depth assessment before placing companion animals into new homes: By screening properly, rescue workers and animal shelters can help make sure that animals who have often survived cruelty, neglect, or abandonment will find safe homes in which they will be treated with love and respect for the rest of their lives.

Rush Limbaugh is at it again, this time attacking Sandra Fluke for (gasp!) speaking out against raising student loan interest rates and for supporting more accessible higher education.

Fluke posted a message on Twitter that said, "#DontDoubleMyRate. Many students will see the interest rate on Fed#StudentLoans increase if Congress doesn't act by 7/1" -- a statement similar to one President Obama delivered soon after. Limbaugh accused her of "coordinating with Obama, scaring students about the interest rates on their student loans." Rush has lost it!

Limbaugh went on to say that "Contraception isn't enough. Some people want their education paid for by other people, too." In fact, the raised rates would affect undergraduates -- not law graduate students like Fluke.

Limbaugh (a college drop out, by the way) needs to stop attacking American citizens like Fluke and quit his right-wing media bullying tactics. Boycott Rush and pledge to support intelligent, progressive media!
