Congress, don't ban military chapels for same-sex weddings!

-

In a particularly homophobic move, conservative US Representatives are tangling our nation's security with the gay marriage issue. A crucial bill that sets military salaries and defense policy would typically be a house no brainer with bi-partisan support.

But tacked onto that bill is a new law that would prevent military chapels from being used for same-sex weddings.

There is no reason in the world that same-sex military couples should not have access to the same wedding facilities as their straight counterparts. Furthermore, this move brings the gay marriage debate into an arena where it does not belong. It doesn't just compromise LGBT rights; it also puts our national safety up for debate. It's a malicious measure which could force Congressmen who do NOT oppose gay marriage to vote against it.

Tell members of Congress to vote no on the current incarnation of the Defense bill!

Boehner: End Republicans' Anti-Women Agenda

-

Washington's Republicans have been playing politics with women ever since they gained power in Congress. They've attacked women's right to contraception. They've inserted the government into women's health care decisions. They've even voted against the Violence Against Women Act, turning a law that protects women and prevents domestic violence into a political charade.

Some Republicans claim they're not waging a War on Women -- but one look at their records exposes their anti-women agenda.

We need to send a message to House Speaker John Boehner and his Republican Party that they need to respect women. Tell Congressional Republicans to back off their War on American Women.

Tell Congress: Help Feed America's Hungry People!

-

More than 46 million Americans depend on SNAP, formerly the food stamps program, to help put food on their tables every day. SNAP has prevented our nation's economic crisis from turning into a hunger crisis.

But the House of Representatives recently proposed cutting more than $169 billion from SNAP, and some representatives argued that feeding hungry people is really the work of the churches.

That's outrageous! These representatives are essentially saying that on average, every church in America -- no matter how small -- needs to come up with an extra $50,000 dedicated to feeding people every year for the next 10 years to make up for these cuts.

Churches are already responding to unprecedented need, but this burden is more than they can bear and it's our poorest and most vulnerable who will be harmed.

Tell Congress churches can't be the only ones responsible for feeding hungry people.

Congress: It's Time to Make Fighting Cancer a National Priority!

-

This year, more than 577,000 people in the U.S. will die from cancer.

Yet, we know how to save lives from cancer. In fact, more than half of all cancer deaths could be prevented.

The evidence is clear:
-- Cancer research leads to the medical breakthroughs that save lives.

-- Cancer prevention and early detection programs help catch cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages, reducing suffering and saving lives.

Tell Congress: It's time to make fighting cancer a national priority!

Insist that your Members of Congress speak out against cuts to cancer research and prevention programs. Ask them to become a leader in the movement to eradicate this terrible disease.

Is Your "Doctor" a Physician?

-

When patients go to their "doctor," they may not always know whether the doctor is a medical doctor or another type of health care professional.

What you see is not always what you get. Many times, some health care professionals advertise that they can treat conditions without having the appropriate education and training. This puts patients' safety at increased and unnecessary risk.

Congress must act to protect Americans across the country. Tell Congress to support truth in advertising legislation.

Tell Congress to Save Our Science!

-

NASA's Science program -- including Planetary Science -- is slated for drastic cuts in the proposed U.S. budget for fiscal year 2013. NASA will be forced to back out of planned missions to Mars with the European Space Agency in 2016 and 2018. Any future flagship missions to the outer planets will be gone. NASA's proud tradition of planetary discovery will be devastated.

Congress is now considering this proposed budget, but there is still time to restore the needed 30% of NASA's budget to the Science program and prevent these destructive cuts.

Join Bill Nye and The Planetary Society in taking action today by sending a message to your Congressional representatives: Save Our Science to keep NASA's crucial discoveries coming!
