Drop Irresponsible Contractor now!

I am outraged to learn that DART First State may be using a tax scofflaw to clean its facilities in New Castle County, and the same company is a janitorial subcontractor at the Public Safety Building in downtown Wilmington. Elite Building Services has a history of unpaid federal taxes. It has more than $240,000 in outstanding federal tax liens. And the company has been accused by current and former employees of turning a deaf ear to workers when they complain about working conditions. A former employee had to rely on charity care from a hospital van while working for Elite. A current worker was transferred to a different worksite after she complained about late paychecks. Elite’s treatment of its workers is not consistent with the conduct of a responsible contractor. As public agencies funded mostly by taxpayer dollars, DART and Wilmington should not use tax delinquents that do not respect its workers. I urge you not to renew contracts with Elite or property managers that employ Elite, and to seek a low bidder that is also responsible.

Put Communities Back to Work -- Support Technology Training!

The economy is at the forefront of most people's minds, and while many businesses have struggled to weather the recent recession, things are looking up for the Information Technology (IT) sector.

Relative to the U.S. economy, IT firms continue to express more confidence and have shown steady growth despite the recession. In a recent survey of business owners, 48 percent report that they expect to increase investments in research, development and creative initiatives, and nearly one-third expect to increase spending on technology.

The IT market represents one of the fastest growing sectors of the U.S. economy. Investing in career development for fields such as IT can help pull communities out of recession by providing the technical and business skills employers need. But we won't pull our economy into a new era unless we convince our leaders to invest in these opportunities.

Sign the petition urging your Governor to support job development in the IT industry and help put your state back to work.
