Dear Chancellor Blumenthal, Vice Chancellor McGinty, and Mr. Zuidema, I am writing out of concern over the decision to dismiss Brian Glasscock. UC Santa Cruz is an institution that has a long and proud history of fostering alternative views and discourses. Santa Cruz is known for its strong commitment to pushing students to service into our communities and across the world. This campus, since its founding, has been dedicated to pushing the academic envelope, striving to understand our world, and nurturing students have and will change our world. UCSC is renowned for its departments, some exclusive to UCSC, which promote this vision. Feminist Studies, History of Consciousness, and Community Studies all stand as examples of this historical and present commitment. Our institution should be proud of its influential students and professors such as Professor Betina Apthker, Professor Emeritus Angela Davis, alumni Huey P. Newton, and others have made UCSC their intellectual home and illustrate this campus' commitment to social justice and activism. Today we ask that one more student be given the opportunity to benefit from the UCSC experience.

The current budget debate in the Virginia General Assembly does not bode well for Public School Education in Virginia. Specifically, the Roanoke City School system is faced with a likely budget deficit well in excess of 10 million dollars. Providing an adequate education for urban students is a costly endeavor; providing a high-quality education for urban students costs even more. The employees of Roanoke City Schools have worked diligently over the past years with less and less and have accomplished more and more in spite of ever increasing challenges. Since our elected State officials are not willing to Keep their Promise to the children of Virginia, Roanoke must do whatever it takes to Keep the Promise to our Children. Join the Roanoke Education Association today in supporting Court Rosen's proposal for a 2%/2year meal tax in Roanoke City that will generate much needed funds for Roanoke City Schools. Also, join us March 20 at noon at the Martin Luther King Bridge in Downtown Roanoke and stand up for Public

Many children are rapped by Catholic priests! We must urge the Vatican to ensure that all men that want to become priests must pass a psychological test. This would ensure that they do not have pedofile tendencies! I can't stand the thought that a child would suffer!

I was horrified last year when I saw a calculator on my daughter's book list for Grade 2. We didn't use calculators until high school, and even then we didn't need them terribly often.
Calculators will undermine any effort to teach young children to work out mathematical problems in their heads.
FOR EXAMPLE: A couple of years ago we ordered some pizza. A guy aged around 17 delivered it to us at home. The price was $18.90. We gave him a $20 note. He fished out a calculator from his pocket to work out the change. That is absolutely freakin' ridiculous!
So please, sign this petition and help stop the ongoing campaign to dumb down our children.
