Please sign this petition to support our cause to make our community roads safer.
There have been too many fatal accidents at this intersection. There can be a simple U-turn implemented with just 3 signs. The jug handle is already there. Unfortunately my friend Jeffrey Penna was seriously injured there on 3/9/10. It is time to take action and put an end to the left hand turn from Rt. 309 onto Bergey Road....

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors sustain FY2011 funding to county parks at the current level approved for FY2010 for the following reasons:
· The Fairfax County Park Authority budget cannot manage another cut after nine years of level funding (no increase) from the County and one ( FY2010) a reduction of 14%;
· Our parks programs and services in environmentally responsible homescape and landscape management and safety are critical to the health and well-being of Fairfax County citizens in their homes and businesses;
· Poor park maintenance puts public health and safety at risk;
· The impact on low income families is particularly severe;
· Deferred maintenance costs more than doing it as you go;

Since 1997, the East Vancouver Farmers Market (EVFM) has successfully operated on Saturdays from spring - fall in the main (West) parking lot at the Trout Lake Community Centre. In March 2010, the community centre is slated to be torn-down and a new centre will be built in its place. During that time, the main parking lot will be used for construction equipment and will be unavailable for use by the East Vancouver Saturday Farmers Market. Parks Board staff will be proposing an interim parking and traffic plan to assist with movement and parking of vehicles around the park during community centre construction.
The Vancouver Farmers Markets, organizers of the EVFM, have applied to the Vancouver Parks Board to move this market to the north parking lot of John Hendry Park, at 13th Ave. near Lakewood St.. This move would be for a temporary period during the 2010 and 2011 season from May - October, after which time we plan to move the EVFM back to a new and improved market location at the Trout Lake Community Centre.

For several seasons, Meadows Place Baseball (MPB) has requested approval from the Parks & Recreation Department to add fence guards to the top of the fences (the yellow piping), for both Majors & Machine fields. MPB is an established youth baseball program that provides boys and girls ages 4 to13 of all skill levels the opportunity to play baseball. This spring season (2010) the City agreed to add this protective measure to the fields, which supports our mission to keep our players safe and to avoid the potential for injury. MPB welcomed this gesture and was encouraged by the Citys support to provide a safer environment for our children.
However, recently the City contacted the league and reminded their expectation is to have the fence guard removed at the end of the season. Furthermore, stated in future seasons that the fence guard would only be allowed on the Majors field and not on the Machine field.

Because Johns Island roadways have been the subject of much review and study in the past fifteen years;
Because numerous accidents and fatalities still occur due to driving at excessive speeds, driving under the influence and other causes;
Because consistent law enforcement would help decrease instances of bad driving behavior, speeding, and driving under the influence;
Because, amid other study of whether to build new roads, law enforcement and review of speed limits of current roads would be more cost-effective and increase the safety of existing roads immediately;
Because we have seen the success of increased law enforcement and subsequent lower fatalities first hand at US-17 South in Gardens Corner;
We the undersigned are requesting immediate county and/or state law enforcement on Main/Bohicket and River Roads, Johns Island, Charleston County to improve the safety of our existing roads. With your help, law enforcement can become part of a comprehensive transportation management plan for traffic and safety issues on Johns Island.

New York State plans to close many state parks and historic sites as a budgetary measure. Philipse Manor Hall is one of the oldest colonial houses in the New York City area and costs a pittance to operate. Help the Friends of PMH in their campaign to keep it open to the public!
