Summer Job for Environmental Educator at Global Youth Village (Bedford, Virginia)

-
Create a legacy by working with idealistic, enthusiastic teens. Every summer since 1979, a dynamic community is created at the Global Youth Village that emphasizes experiential learning and challenges young people to turn intercultural theory into practical action. This year 100+ youths (ages 14-18) and staff from around the world will participate. 2012 highlights include youth delegations from Indonesia and Iraq. Workshops address issues concerning young people today, such as war and peace, arts & culture, distribution of world resources, prejudice, environmental concerns, and other social pressures. Cultural programming and cooperative living help participants learn to respect differences and discover similarities that transcend cultural, religious, and political barriers. A position is open for a teacher/trainer for the "Green Your World" workshop: Guide youths through an exploration of the natural world and the complex issues facing global ecosystems. Inspire them to incorporate sustainable living practices into their daily lives. Explore such key concepts as eco-tourism, permaculture, fair trade, green building, organic agriculture and renewable energy.

Save the Mandaean Refugees

-

We, the members of the Mandaean community in the United States of America and their friends, are asking our government to take the moral, legal and historic responsibility to save the Iraqi Mandaean refugees in Syria and Jordan. More than 90% of them fled Iraq for good. Our hope is to resettle them in America as a persecuted group in order to save the future culture, traditions, and faith of the Mandaean community.

Without the help of our government, the Mandaean people, who are without a country, and protection cannot defend themselves are headed towards annihilation.

Mandaeans are considered the smallest and most vulnerable ethno-religious minority in Iraq and Iran. We number fewer than 60,000 people in the world, scattered around the globe as a result of our intervention in Iraq. We follow the teachings of John the Baptist and practice baptism in flowing water as our central ritual. Our teachings expressly forbid us from carrying weapons, even for self-defense. Instead, the Ginza Raba, the chief Mandaean holy book, teaches us to oppose injustice bravely with words and knowledge, not iron. We therefore live our lives solely by peaceful means.

Stand with President Obama in Support of the End of the Iraq War

-

President Obama has led the process to bring the Iraq war to a responsible end, placing responsibility for Iraqi security in the hands of Iraqis. Our combat troops -- whose valor, courage, and self-sacrifice made possible the progress we've made -- came home from Iraq by the end of 2011.

This is a promise kept, and the President is committed to continuing to refocus our security priorities on the most serious threats we face -- including fighting al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and its affiliates around the world.

Sign on to show your support for President Obama's actions to end the war responsibly.

When you add your name, we'll send you updates and information about how you can help lead the President's 2012 campaign to continue to make our country safer.

Keep Clean Air Standards on Track!

-

The Obama administration's recently proposed fuel efficiency and global warming emissions standards for vehicles sold between 2017 and 2025 would go a long way to ending our dangerous dependence on foreign oil and combating climate change. They would save consumers billions of dollars at the gas pump, prevent millions of tons of global warming emissions and save as much oil in 2030 as we currently import from Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Automakers have the technology to make all new cars, trucks and SUVs cleaner. But just as opportunity knocks, they are working behind the scenes to weaken the standards with loopholes that could increase pollution and oil dependence.

The EPA and the Department of Transportation are currently accepting public comments on the proposed standards, and they need to hear from citizens like you, not just industry lobbyists.

Tell the Obama administration to move forward with strong clean car standards and oppose harmful industry-backed loopholes.
